We suggest a 4 or 5 weight fly rod. Battle Creek offers quality nymphing and dry fly-fishing. For leaders, bring both 9 and 12 foot tapered leaders in 4x, 5x and 6x. Tippet material in the same strengths is necessary. You'll need floatant for the dry flies, and it wouldn’t hurt to bring a wading staff. You will need chest waders and felt sole wading boots.
As for flies, it will depend on the weather and water level. Bring a basic selection of dry flies in sizes 12-18, including Adams, Caddis, Humpies, Renegades, Coachman, Pale Evening Dun, Wulffs, and Trudes. A nymph selection in sizes 8-12 should include Hares Ears, Golden-Stones, Pheasant Tail, Prince, Caddis, Pupa, Zug Bugs & APs. The sleeper for summer and warm fall days is a Grasshopper imitation fished dry, and a Wooly Bugger (green) fished wet is a must.
The above list is an overview of the basics. Obviously, other patterns will work well. The lodge has rods, reels, vests, and waders available for rent. A large variety of flies are available for purchase in our fully stocked fly shop.
Please carry forceps to assist in releasing the trout. It is unwise to handle the fish unnecessarily. We request the utmost care regarding the handling of all trout. THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL GENE POOL THAT WE CANNOT AFFORD TO TAMPER WITH. We appreciate your cooperation.
